SHN is actively recruiting a planner (mid- and senior level in Redding), a Survey Party Chief (Willits office), and a Professional Licensed Surveyor (Eureka office).  We are always interested to hear from mid/senior level civil engineers specializing in water, wastewater, public works, and environmental services.  We offer the advantages of working at a small company (you’ll “wear lots of hats”), but we are large enough to support research and application of new technologies such as horizontal directional drilling, cured in place pipe, ElectroScan™ leak detection, and survey-supported drone services.  Our current planning projects include developing university student housing, analyzing impacts from a regional medical facility, and monitoring mitigation projects relating to highway construction.  Check out our Currently Open Positions page for detailed job descriptions.

The work we do benefits our communities and environment, which is a primary motivator for us!  The work is also generally demanding and often on a tight deadline so we work in teams that foster camaraderie, friendships, respect, and leadership.  It’s not for everyone, but it might be for you!

Work is in Northern California and Southern Oregon, with municipal work occurring in small towns and cities.  Work for commercial clients, special districts, and county and state agencies can take us out to beautiful and scenic coastal, forested, river, and valley project sites.  Some of our staff live within small cities (Eureka, Willits, Fort Bragg, Ukiah, Arcata, Fortuna, Redding, Coos Bay, Klamath Falls) but others live within short commuting distance on rural properties that allow for horses and livestock, large gardens, and open space.  Through working and living in our small communities, we directly experience the social, economic, and environmental benefits that our projects create.
