Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Senior Environmental and Civil Engineer
During his 25 years of environmental and civil engineering experience, Mike has investigated and remediated several sites including the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska and the Indian Island wood preservatives and boat maintenance contamination on Humboldt Bay. In 2019, Mike accepted awards from the Environmental Business Journal and the American Council of Engineering Companies for his work as Project Manager and senior engineer for the rehabilitiation of water, wastewater, and roads infrastructure in the historical Town of Samoa, CA. Mike started at SHN in 1995 as a staff environmental engineer, was eventually promoted to Environmental Services Principal and later to Civil Engineering Principal. In January 2019, Mike became SHN's third CEO since 1979.
Brenda has served as SHN’s Chief Financial Officer since 1999, and is responsible for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial aspects of the company. She provides leadership in developing our continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial objectives, and provides analyses of budgets, financial forecasts, and reporting for the company. Brenda also oversees the planning, implementing, and administering of our human resources programs, procedures, and benefits in compliance with federal and state labor law and established SHN policies.
Sheri was an environmental engineer with SHN before becoming Director of Business Development in 2019. She is responsible for supporting SHN’s principals in positioning, branding, business development, and proposals. Having received her MBA in 2015, Sheri assists the CEO and CFO in business organization and company culture. Community service is an SHN value, and Sheri also serves as the President of the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District and Board Chair of the Redwood Coast Energy Authority
Bob has worked for over 25 years to combine community and regional planning with ecological restoration services. He works with both public and private clients, and his experience covers a broad spectrum of planning and environmental projects. He has longstanding working relationships with agency staff and private clients throughout northern California. Bob has taught the NEPA/CEQA course at Humboldt State University since 2009 and has completed management and facilitation training from the National Charrette Institute.
Senior Planner and Project Manager. Bruce has 23+ years of experience as an environmental planner and project manager for federal, state, and local government entities; private clients; tribal governments; and non-profit organizations. He becomes a true partner in successful project completion, coordinating multi-disciplinary and multi-agency projects. Bruce's planning and CEQA/NEPA experience covers a wide range of land uses and industries, including mining and landfill expansions, wind energy, subdivisions and low income housing, and medical and religious campuses. Bruce also acts as an extension of County planning staff for Trinity County, reviewing Conditional Use Permits and CEQA documents.
Matt has almost 30 years of experience providing land surveying, civil engineering and planning services throughout the California North Coast, as well as serving 3 years as a field surveyor for the U.S. Army. He is in responsible charge of construction staking, topographic mapping, boundary determination, record searches and deed preparation, and analyzing and preparing Subdivision Maps and Record of Surveys, performed by staff. Matt assisted in data acquisition and preparation of the City of Willits Geographic Information System (GIS). He is one of SHN's surveyors who is working with our unmanned aerial systems/drone pilots, finding practical applications for this new technology.
Jason has over 20 years of experience in professional engineering services. He has worked on many public and private projects of varying size, and he is a highly effective project manager. His “hands-on” experience in construction gives him practical insights in the design process and during construction management. He has been the Resident Engineer on numerous municipal capital improvement projects for the Cities of Fort Bragg and Point Arena, and the Noyo Harbor District. His work on the Noyo Harbor Boat Launch Facility was recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) in 2019 with a Merit Award.
Erik has 25+ years of experience in environmental and applied geology and hydrogeology, working with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. His experience includes project management, subsurface investigation, site remediation, plan and procedure development, bid preparation, permitting, and subcontractor selection. He has prepared interpretive reports, preliminary plans, working drawings, construction documents, and cost estimates for assessment and remediation projects. His field experience includes excavation, drilling, soil and groundwater sampling, hydrogeologic interpretation, aquifer characterization, lithologic and geophysical logging, well design and installation, and stormwater compliance. Erik has worked in areas contaminated with VOCs, fuel hydrocarbons, metals, pesticides, radioactive materials, and explosives.
Jared's 10+ years of consulting experience covers engineering, construction management, and inspections. His engineering expertise includes site development and "site civil" services, slope stability analyses, and the design of retaining walls, floating docks, foundations, water tanks, parking lots, and road realignments. He is an expert on hydraulic fracture analyses for horizontal directional drilling operations. Specific specialities include ADA accessibility, municipal utility design, and stormwater mitigation and low impact development.
Regional Principal in Klamath Falls, Senior Civil Engineer
Anders has 25 years of experience in water-related engineering and design/bid/build and alternative delivery projects. His experience covers water resources, wastewater, drinking water, water quality, low impact development (LID), stormwater, environmental restoration, general civil/site design, and regulatory compliance. His areas of expertise are master planning and studies capital improvement planning; utility rate studies; stormwater management, LID design, and industrial stormwater permit compliance; wastewater and water treatment; conceptual, preliminary, and final design for design/bid/build and alternative delivery projects, including CM/GC and design/build; construction observation/management; water quality, hydrologic, and hydraulic modeling; site design; and regulatory compliance.
Gary is a Certified Engineering Geologist with 25+ years of experience, applying Quaternary Geology and geomorphology to geotechnical and geohazard evaluations. He has a wide range of experience in engineering geological analyses pertaining to slope stability, timber harvest impacts, forestland and rural road design and evaluations, and preparation of environmental impact reports. He has particularly strong experience in the identification and mitigation of earthquake-related hazards, and has conducted research-level studies of active faults throughout California, in the central U.S., and in Israel. He is also experienced in field mapping and site investigations for critical facility siting studies.
Regional Principal in Coos Bay, Senior Civil Engineer
Chuck is an experienced leader and manager in civil engineering design, project management, and construction, with special focus on railroad bridge hydrology and hydraulics, and structural design. His experience spans railroad design and construction, maintenance, structures design, inspection and construction, water resources, permitting, and project management. Chuck’s knowledge and experience in ports, transportation, project management, and construction will add to our ability to serve coastal cities and harbor and port districts.
Greg has 25+ years experience in the fields of geology, surveying, environmental sciences, hazardous materials, soils, special inspection, and materials testing. He has worked on projects including geologic mapping and interpretation, fault trench interpretation, geotechnical and environmental drill rig operations, field and laboratory techniques, drafting, air photography interpretation, soils descriptions, and civil applications.
