Senior Land Surveyor, P.L.S.

SHN's Eureka office is seeking a California Licensed Surveyor (P.L.S.) experienced and capable in field and office survey tasks. Complete knowledge of Land Surveying as it relates to Land Development projects essential and survey crew supervision experience preferred.

Survey duties include a wide variety of office and land development survey tasks including: boundary, topographic, subdivision, SCDOT and construction surveys for all phases of residential subdivisions, commercial development and public works. Additional duties will include coordinating job action plans and work schedules, reviewing and processing all survey deliverables, and documenting project progress.

Qualifications/Education/Registrations/Certifications:

Staff Land Surveyor, L.S.I.T.

SHN Consulting Engineers & Geologists, Inc. is seeking a full-time, long term Staff Surveyor in Eureka, CA. If you excel in and enjoy math, problem solving, new technology, and prefer to work outdoors, consider a new career in Land Surveying/Geomatics.

Typical surveyor duties will include: Acting as rodperson or instrument person in topographic, boundary, construction, engineering, and other surveys; Measuring, analyzing and managing distances while employing high-tech equipment like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), digital photogrammetry, digital total stations, and satellite and terrestrial remote sensing units to create detailed surveys; and cutting and clearing brush and trees from line of survey using various hand and power tools.

SHN is seeking a Staff or Mid-Level Civil Engineering Technician/Design Draftsperson with proven AutoCAD proficiency, with experience in civil drafting of storm water, water supply, wastewater and municipal projects using the civil design module, Land Desktop, survey module and CAD overlay.  Experience with Civil 3D is desirable.  

Duties include working on projects that include land development, water resources, underground utility layout, grading and drainage. This person will be working closely with other drafters and engineers to ensure the timely completion of projects including detailed working drawings for civil, structural, environmental, and geo-technical engineering project designs.

Qualifications/Education/Registrations/Certifications:
* A.S. Degree in Drafting/Design Technology field (preferred)
* Survey and Construction field experience highly desired.

Senior Professional Land Surveyor/Department Head

SHN's Redding, CA office is seeking a Senior Land Professional Surveyor/Department Head to manage the Redding survey department. Typical duties include: developing, scheduling and managing projects; training, mentoring, and scheduling personnel; providing quality assurance/control in all offices as needed; and controlling the operations and direction of their department and for personnel within their department. 

The Senior Professional Surveyor/Department Head must be a leader who is able to inspire others.  The primary function of this position is to support the Survey Service Director by acting as their local representative; to manage the department; to oversee the technical quality of projects; to hire, train, and retain technical staff; to commit technical resources to projects; and to perform business development activities in conjunction with the Regional Managers. Successful candidates will have proven ability to lead a small department, perform professional level survey field and office work, and a willingness to be a team player in a highly charged environment.

Experience and proficiency using conventional, GPS, and robotic equipment, and experience using AutoCAD and Land Development Desktop without further training is essential. Civil Engineer, P.E.

SHN is seeking a Civil Engineer, P.E. with civil design experience covering municipal, industrial, commercial, and residential applications including hands on working knowledge of AutoCAD Land Development Software. Design competency should include site development and improvement including sanitary sewer, potable water systems, and storm drainage. Additional design experience in water and wastewater distribution and treatment systems, and road design is considered a plus. Some structural experience designing retaining walls and foundations would be beneficial.

Strong project management skills are considered essential! PM duties include: Scheduling the work of project team members; providing input to Service Directors and Department Heads to facilitate monitoring of staff utilization; coordinating and monitoring the activities of the project team on project tasks; assuring that correct and complete billings are prepared for the client and contacting clients when payments are late.

Qualifications:  Minimum of three (3) years technical experience and at least five (5) years of professional project related experience preferred. Civil Engineering Intern

SHN Consulting Engineers & Geologists, Inc. is seeking a temporary part-time Civil Engineering Intern in our Willits, CA office. This position requires a High School Diploma (or equivalent), mathematical aptitude and a valid CA DL.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering practices and related fields. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, AutoCAD, Milestones or Project Scheduling software, and other applications desirable. High level of oral and written communication skills required.

Interns at SHN are encouraged to perform a variety of tasks related to engineering and general office business operations such as: AutoCAD and manual drafting, simple and complex calculations, word processing and editing, cost and quantity estimating and internet research. General offices tasks might include: ordering materials and supplies, delivering documents and plans and additional tasks. SHN offers progressive project responsibility based upon performance and interest.Part of the day-to-day activities will be to draft portions of design reports, technical specifications and regulatory permit packages as well as reporting to project staff and project managers.
