SHN crafts and refines our Mission, Vision, and Values statements (MVVs) during our periodic strategic planning sessions, during which we create goals and schedule tasks that uphold our MVVs. The senior leadership team reviews the tasks and schedule every month to keep ourselves accountable. In this way, our MVV statements are more than empty words in a strategic plan file saved on a server.
For example, to realize our vision of building a better future together, we set a goal of improving how we attract, develop, and retain staff who share this vision. Tasks undertaken so far include improving our student outreach, formalizing our new employee onboarding, conducting annual employee surveys and reporting its results, promoting flexible work arrangements, starting our Buddy Program, and performing a compensation review.
These efforts are working. In our 2024 staff survey, 68% of staff respondents strongly agree with “I would like to be working for this organization one year from today” and 20% of staff agree.
