SHN Culture

We define SHN culture as “the way things are done here at SHN.”

We have mission, vision, and values statements; and policies, handbooks, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on the company intranet–but our day-to-day actions and our staff’s feelings about work are what really characterize our culture.

People who thrive at SHN tend to:

  • Find meaning in work that supports our local communities
  • Like variety in their work more than specialization
  • Function well as team leaders and members
  • Be life-long learners
  • Take advantage of outdoor recreation that is minutes away from our homes
  • Value a culture that supports work-life balance

Our annual employee survey gives us a good snapshot of our company culture. In February 2025, 77% of staff responded to the survey, indicating their feelings from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 6 (Strongly Agree).  Here are some average results that indicate our company culture:

  • My supervisor respects my work life balance, 5.42
  • I am a member of a well-functioning group; we consistently work well together, 5.31
  • We socialize and celebrate special events, 5.51
  • I am committed to this company as a career opportunity, 5.47
  • We have a real commitment to high quality work, 5.54
  • We have a real commitment to high levels of customer service, 5.58

Our commitment to high quality work and client satisfaction is reflected in profitability that increases share prices and bonuses, which further rewards employee-shareholders and staff.  Read more information on SHN’s ownership.
